Some of the performances seem to be more experimental, conceptual and contemporary dance instead of opting for
classic ballet, what are the criteria or elements to look at when?
Like all arts, dance has undergone significant evolution over the ages, particularly in the 20th century. From the principles of classical dance established in the 19th century, to the neo-classical and modern evolution at the beginning of the 20th century, the 1960s saw the birth of postmodern dance. This last stage then led us to the globalized concept of contemporary dance. Contemporary dance is indeed a concept that allows artists, regardless of their culture or origin, to develop their own language. Based on three essential values: creation, transmission, and education, the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels program aims to support dance on an international scale. Our support favors creation and artists, but also institutions that present dance. Contemporary dance is the result of an evolution and heritage that it is important to
highlight when presenting it. In this context, the festival at each edition offers a wide overview of contemporary dance creation on an international scale and invites the public to discover the richness of this art today.

Can you share a dance/performance that has inspired you the same way? Do you see any form of art would become more universal?
As mentioned above, we rely on the values of creation but also of transmission, as it is important to emphasize that contemporary art maintains a connection with history. The performances Save the Last Dance for Me by Alessandro Sciarroni or Loie Fuller Research by Ola Maciejewska develop contemporary language while drawing inspiration from tradition. It is a way of highlighting that contemporary artists are connected to heritage and that contemporary creation is consequently linked to history.

Since the debut of Dance Reflections in London, Hong Kong in 2023 and other markets, how has Dance Reflections evolved/developed over the years?
The Dance Reflections project is still very recent; we launched the program in support of artists in 2020, and the first edition of the festival took place in London in 2022. Our goal is therefore, at each edition of the festival—Seoul being the 6th—to present an overview of international contemporary dance. Each time we showcase recent creations as well as existing pieces that I think are important to present because they serve as references that help better understand the issues of today's dance. I believe that a festival is, of course, a place to show works but also a space to discuss choreographic culture. Through the festival, we address the challenge of education by organizing meetings with artists, master classes, as well as workshops open to everyone. Education is therefore an important area of development, and we focus a lot of effort on promoting awareness of choreographic art.
